Linh & Tommy: Vietnamese Betrothal

We love celebrating events from different cultures, and no event is too intimate or to large for us to carefully document at Igor Wedding Photography.

The event featured here is a Vietnamese Engagement dinner, also known as a Betrothal ceremony, they had this special event at their parents home in Irving, TX, this ceremony is a public announcement that the couple is preparing to marry and that the focus is on each other and usually combined with an engagement party (le dinh hon). It began with future bride Linh changing into a beautiful hot pink dress, traditionally worn at Vietnamese ceremonies called an ao dai, her really close friends dressed similarly but in different vibrant colors, they prepared the table with Vietnamese cookies and traditional Asian sweets.

Guest began to arrive, and they exchanged endearments, it also included the exchange of several symbolic gifts wrapped in red for good luck and a time to receive blessings from both families. Gifts often include Asian areca nuts, betel leaves, tea, cake, fruits, wines, a roasted pig, and other delicacies that are beautifully arranged and carried by unmarried women and men to the future bride’s home. If the future bride’s parents accept the gifts, it's a sign that they approve of the upcoming marriage between the couple.

After the gifts are accepted, the future bride was walked down the hallway by her parents, it was a beautiful moment that we were honored to be able to capture. The couple proceeds to light incense for the ancestors and serve tea to the elders for both families. Usually then the bride would prepare a feast for both families at their parents home, but in our couples case they just went out to for a restaurant dinner afterwards!

As you can witness from these photos, at Igor wedding Photography we really enjoy Asian and multicultural weddings and events! Contact us today!

Ashton Gardens: Lauren & Brent's wedding, Corinth, Texas

I've shot a few weddings in my time, okay.. a lot of weddings and every once and awhile I meet a couple who redefine love for me , and show me why I initially began this venture. While I love the creative, artistic side of photography, weddings like Lauren and Brent's help me to fall in love all over again with my profession. It makes me happy!

The event venue was an absolutely beautiful chapel by the name of Ashton Gardens, located in Corinth, Texas. It's a unique chapel, with distinctive floor to ceiling windows, surrounded by plentiful gardens ,fountains and lush greenery.

Our Bride and Groom , opted to do a first look, featured here. This is an event I love to capture, not many couples choose this , often the bride not wanting to reveal the dress before the ceremony, but if you are wanting to capture those tear jerk moments, with no one around, I find that this is the best way to get them! This moment allows for an intimate moment for you and your spouse, for the realization that everything you have been waiting for, where your lives join and continue as one. This very day!

Every picture captured with Lauren and Brent invoked love, and the couple nearly forgot I was there! They were simply lost in each other, and everyone else around them felt it too!

At Igor Wedding Photography we love to tell love stories through beautiful photos, are you looking to capture beautiful imagery of your romantic wedding day? Contact us today, let us help you tell your story with our fine art wedding photography.

New Proposal Trends - Proposal Photos

When making wedding plans, having a photographer isn't even a question that needs to be asked.
Why not start documenting from the very beginning? The Proposal.
It's an equally important day, that is personal and very special.

Remember that although you are discussing marriage and possibly documenting your groom/bride proposing to you, the element of surprise can still be included in keeping the moment, time and place a well kept secret.

The proposal can sometimes be thought of as "The best day ever" it's the beginning of your future together and not only will you have the stories to tell your family, friends and loved ones you can show them, it will be as if they were present and reliving every moment with you.

The proposal photographer you choose for your proposal (hopefully your wedding photographer as well)  he should ask you things like how did you two meet, exactly what moments you want captured, anything significant he should know, take a detailed walk through of the location to find the best spots to secure himself, and maybe even offer up ideas and suggestions . He should also be discreet and capture every moment to the second your fiance drops down to their knee, to the moment your partner says Yes!

You need to hire a great Dallas proposal photographer to get those proposal photos that you so deserve!

Also, remember when proposing to your significant other, the bigger the gesture doesn't always mean better. Don't over think it, residing with simplicity and genuine emotions are going to relate so much more to your partner. Go with just an intimate setting with the two of you, it helps calm the nerves and for you to just focus on the reason for you being there and the task at hand. Try going to somewhere you two frequent or a place you've always discussed visiting and haven't gone yet.

Thinking about popping the question to your special loved one ? Want to make it even more special and relive this event forever? Contact proposal photographer Igor today, lets capture your beautiful proposal photos!

The Hall Of State Wedding in Fair Park, Dallas

Once in a while I do a styled wedding or bridal shoot together with some great wedding vendors. I only do it if I have a strong concept that I want to photograph and if it's something that I have never done before.

The reason for doing this glamorous styled wedding shoot at The Hall Of State in Fair Park in Dallas was to capture a wedding in this stunning venue and to showcase it's architecture and to combine it with a luxurious wedding party. The theme and style had to be classy and glamorous with a mixture of both vintage and contemporary fashion feel.

It was a pleasure to work together with Dominique from the Luxe Society Event Group on this styled wedding. We had a really strong vendor team for this shoot, including an amazing Galia Lahav designer gown, provided exclusively by Neimann Marcus Bridal Salon in Dallas. The pretty Bridesmaids dresses were provided by Pence & Panache, the unique jewelry by Kendra Scott and the sharp Groom and Groomsmen suits by J. Hillburn in Dallas. Please see below for the other terrific Dallas wedding vendors that made this shoot so fantastic.

Great Gatsby Bridal Photography at the Art Deco T&P Station

Since I love the 1920's style and Art Deco architecture, it was a real joy to photograph a Great Gatsby inspired bridal shoot for the Pence & Panache bridal boutique. The T&P train station in downtown Fort Worth was a perfect setting for this photo shoot. The architecture is stunning and made a great backdrop for the beautiful brides with amazing Great Gatsby inspires dresses and accessories.

All weddings that incorporate Art Deco styling and Great Gatsby bridal and wedding photography have always been one of my absolute favorites themes to photograph, it's visually stunning with rich colors, patterns and details. A wedding photographers dream!

The glamorous 1920's brides lived in an era where music was made for dancing, the champagne was flowing and the fabulous wedding dresses and jewelry took a leap into the future. The elegance and glitz was at it's peak and people did not spare any money into making grand events and weddings. The whole area seemed to be a big extravagant party, an epoch of fantasies that has made a huge mark on today's fashion, furniture and architecture.

Enjoy these two beautiful Art Deco brides at the historic T&P station, we had a great time Photographing Izzy and Tayana. Let us know what you think about this styled shoot?

Get your entire wedding for FREE

I have been contacted by a big TV production company and have been asked if I could help them find cross-cultural and interfaith couples that are getting married in 2015 and that are interested in telling their story in a prime time TV documentary, they are looking for couples that have family members that may disapprove their marriage due to race, culture, sex, class or other issues. If you get selected for the documentary you will be very generously compensated, the payment should pay for a very nice wedding (including my wedding photography, wink, wink). If you are interested, please contact me with a brief bio and tell my why you think you will be a good candidate at: contact@igorphotos.com, or  682-233-5367, please read the information below before you contact me to see if you are a good fit:

Additional information directly from the TV production company:
------------
"We are seeking Interfaith couples who are destined to be together, but have someone in their family that doesn't approve of the relationship. We'd like to bring the family together before the wedding in hopes of allowing the couple to have their dream wedding, with all of their family members in attendance. The show aims to prove that love can conquer all, and that no one should miss a loved one's special day because of miscommunication or any other adversity.

First and foremost, we want to share the couple’s love story and follow them along their journey down the aisle. We don’t want anyone to change their lives while they are sharing their story, so everyday should be life as normal: work, laundry, shoveling snow, cake tastings-whatever their day to day life already is, we would like to follow it. In asking family members to participate, we want to share the ups and down’s that come with major life event, and sometimes, it doesn’t go as planned.

Our dream is to bring the couples together with their loved ones and initiate a dialogue of openness. We will bring in experts to help facilitate this process. We are hoping to showcase couples who are cross-cultural and interfaith. These are situations that many families still struggle with and we’d like to follow this journey in hopes to give open-mindedness and empathy a platform.

For couples who are willing to share their story, the program would do anything they could to make their wedding day special. There is also very generous compensation in return for allowing us on their journey. We want to have the couple be able to start their married life off with the support of their family, as well a nest egg to celebrate their new life together.

I'd also like to reassure you that this new series will be done as a documentary and NOT reality drama. For couples who are willing to share their story, the program would do anything they could to make their wedding day special. There is also very generous compensation to the couples in return for allowing us on their journey".

The tradition of the Engagemnt Ring & Wedding Ring

The Wedding Ring as a symbol of everlasting love and the perpetual bond that joins a man and a woman in marriage, has a long, interesting and intriguing history.

Since its appearance in Egypt nearly 5,000 years ago, the wedding ring has represented several facets of the traditional wedding vows.

The ancient Egyptian civilization grow up along the fertile flood plains of the river Nile. This river was the source of prosperity and life to the Pharaoh's people, and from plants growing on it's river bank were the first wedding ring fashioned. The wedding ring is a circle, symbolizing the cycle and eternity of love.
The first wedding ring was usually made out of a plant material, most often hemp, grass or reeds, and lasted only a year or so before replacement was necessary. Back then it was only a symbol of love and commitment and not a status symbol at all.

The wedding ring was worn on the fourth finger of the left hand, as is a custom today, due to a belief that a vein in this appendage ran through the body and directly to the heart. This wedding ring idea was enthusiastically embraced by the Romans and many other European cultures, who worn rings made of iron and gold. During the reign of George I of England, the wedding ring was often worn on the thumb. Louisa of Prussia, wore the wedding ring on the little finger of the right hand, while an old Russian custom made the bride and groom to wear the wedding ring on the fourth finger.

Another widespread myth which still persists in some cultures is the idea that the wedding ring must fit absolutely perfectly, or otherwise it would be detrimental to the entire union. It was believed that a wedding ring which was too tight would hint at an oppressive marriage that would be riddled with jealously, control and suspicion, while the wedding ring that was too loose would lead to carelessness and perhaps even infidelity for the newlywed pair.

The Engagement Ring

An engagement ring is a symbol that the person wearing it is engaged to be married and represents a formal agreement, especially in Western cultures. In many Western countries, engagement rings are only worn by women, and rings can feature diamonds or other gemstones. In other cultures around the world both women and men wear matching engagement rings. In some cultures, engagement rings are also used as wedding rings.

The woman's ring is presented as an engagement gift by a man to his prospective spouse while he proposes marriage or directly after she accepts his marriage proposal. In Western countries, it is normally worn on the left hand ring finger, though customs vary across the world.

After marrying, the couple may wear both engagement rings and wedding rings, or only the wedding rings. Some brides have their engagement and wedding rings permanently soldered together after marriage.

Today, most wedding rings are made from gold, silver or other precious metals, but regardless of their material they still symbolize the strength of love and unity to one another. Nowadays most wedding rings feature precious stones, most commonly diamonds, the wealthy started to use diamonds rings around the 15th century in Europe. In modern times the most common type of wedding ring is a gold ring with a solitary diamond or several diamonds. The many varieties of styles of wedding rings can be customized to the wishes of the couple and you can be sure to find one for any taste and budget.

So once you get that precious engagement and wedding ring, make sure to get it beautifully photographed by a professional wedding photographer and have it included in your wedding album.

Bride + Groom + Horse in Palo Pinto, TX

A had a fantastic time shooting this Texas couples portrait session with the awesome Katie and Colby at a Palo Pinto horse ranch this fall. It was extra special since I really like horses and I was sure it was going to be super special to incorporate them in a bridal/groom portrait session. I love to incorporate animals and nature into couples photography.

Katie, the beautiful born and raised Texas bride wore a spectacular gown from Pence and Panache in Burleson, and the groom a classy cowboy inspired look.

The Palo Pinto horse was amazingly cooperative with us, he posed and acted like a truly “professional model”.

A real successful Texas couples wedding shoot.

Here is Lily & Erik's wedding preview! A classic and timeless Catholic wedding in Fort Worth, Texas.

Since I love vintage cars this wedding was extra fun to shoot, their wedding limo was a beautiful antique Chevrolet from the 1930s, absolutely awesome, nice to see an original and unique limo.

The rest of their Mexican wedding was as timeless and classic as the car, full with happiness, a fun mariachi band, a lot of dancing and some great Mexican catering. I love my job!
